Following my teacher's advice I'm writing some information about the author of the story I've chosen, Guy de Maupassant. Actually before reading the story I've read about his life and works for me to orientate myself  in this very piece of writing. So this is what I found about Guy de Maupassant: he was a French author of the naturalistic school who is generally considered the greatest French short story writer. He detailed many aspects of French life in the 19th century in his works. His mentor Flaubert counselled his discipline in his philisophy of writing. He advised his student to write about the things he knew and he was to disregard any ideas of making money from his art. After reading his story I see he followed his teacher's advice, this is what he did. In tone his tales are marked by objectivity and are highly controlled though not dry. Usually they are built around simple episodes from everyday life which revealed the hidden sides of people.

Well, I've read the story "The Blind Man". It appeared not that as I expected. The beginning of the story promices a good and pleasant tale about people's lives, but later it shows not that pleasant sides of our life. This story is a tale of the narrator who at a bright and sunny day remembers about a blind man he knew. He lived a very difficult way of life. After his parents died he lived with his sister and brother-in-law. In the farmhouse everyone treated him as a beggar and made fun of everuthing he did. That hurt him so much but he didn't say anything, he just kept silent as he knew he could do nothing and he depended on those brutes. One winter day he was forced to beg by the road. He spent there the whole day on severe frost and didn't come back. His relatives didn't take care of that. Some days passed and his body was found on the field. His forrible death was relief from the pain he suffered the whole life.

As you can see, this story is far from a pleasant or funny one. It shows the reality of life, there are such people around us and such things can happen to anybody. Such facts agitate us and show that not everything can be seen through rose-coloured spectacles.

I like this story though it's not a pleasing one. It's realistic and this is where its value lies.

I like the idea of communacating and studying with the help of blogging more and more for now I can visit my groupmates' blogs. It's really convinient to communicate and share information connected with studying in such a way.

Well, I suppose, it's time for me to begin writing about the story analysing which will  be my final project in Stylistics studies. The story I've chosen is "The Blind Man" by Guy de Maupassant (the link http://www.americanliterature.com/author/guy-de-maupassant/short-story/the-blind-man).

I've never read stories by this writer and by now know nothing about his style of writing. When I was choosing the story I wanted to try something new and unknown before that's why I stopped at this author. The title told me at once that the story will be about a person who is deprived of what we often do not value at all - eyesight. It gives us opportunity to perceive the world as it is. But the blind cannot, they percieve the world not as we do. Such different point of view possibly described in this story attracted my attention. Maybe I'm not right, but it's what I expect from this story.

Creating my blog wasn't very difficult. There are all the instructions necessary. But still there are some difficulties. I can't make head or tail of how to find my groupmates and read their blogs. I hope I'll cope with it soon. I have to.

The very idea of posting tasks on Blogger for a teacher to check them is great. We don't need any more hand in our papers with written tasks, but can post them here and read at any time that is convinient for us. It's an advantage of our century.

I believe such way of studying will make it easier and more interesting.
